Senior AI Engineer
Overview
The Senior AI Engineer will architect, build, and deploy production-grade AI agents, LLM-powered applications, and scalable backend systems for email marketing and automation use cases. This role requires 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, strong expertise in AI/ML systems, Python and/or Node.js/TypeScript, cloud infrastructure, distributed processing, LLM evaluation, and the integration of marketing platforms and APIs.
Responsibilities
<h2>Key Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Define and own the architecture and technical strategy for production-grade AI agents, agentic workflows, and LLM-powered applications.</li><li>Design, build, and deploy autonomous AI agents and multi-step workflows for email marketing, marketing automation, personalization, content generation, and campaign optimization.</li><li>Develop agent architectures incorporating tool calling, function calling, RAG, memory, planning, workflows, and multi-agent systems.</li><li>Design scalable backend and distributed processing systems capable of supporting high-volume AI workloads with low latency, high reliability, and controlled operating costs.</li><li>Integrate AI agents with internal APIs, databases, SaaS platforms, third-party services, and marketing platforms such as Klaviyo, SendGrid, Mailchimp, and HubSpot.</li><li>Establish engineering practices for monitoring, logging, evaluation, observability, validation, guardrails, fallbacks, and error-handling across production AI systems.</li><li>Lead the development of asynchronous and distributed processing pipelines for large-scale AI workloads and customer and campaign data.</li><li>Drive performance, scalability, latency, inference, and API cost optimization while identifying and resolving system bottlenecks.</li><li>Partner with product, engineering, and marketing leadership to translate ambiguous business requirements into scalable AI solutions and measurable customer outcomes.</li><li>Provide technical mentorship and architectural guidance to engineering peers while promoting reliable, safe, and maintainable AI development practices.</li></ul>
Requirements
<h2>Required Qualifications</h2><ul><li><strong>5+ years</strong> of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience working on AI/ML or Generative AI systems.</li><li>Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.</li><li>Strong understanding of LLMs and Generative AI, with hands-on experience using OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or other LLM APIs.</li><li>Experience building AI agents and agentic workflows, including production AI-powered applications and autonomous AI agents.</li><li>Knowledge of RAG, embeddings, vector databases, tool/function calling, prompt engineering, LLM evaluation, hallucination mitigation, and AI safety/guardrails.</li><li>Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent technologies.</li><li>Strong proficiency in Python and/or Node.js/TypeScript.</li><li>Strong understanding of REST APIs, event-driven architectures, queues, asynchronous processing, microservices, and production-grade backend systems.</li><li>Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, or equivalent databases.</li><li>Experience scaling AI/ML applications for high traffic and large workloads using AWS, GCP, or Azure.</li><li>Understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, serverless architectures, CI/CD, caching, rate limiting, load balancing, background workers, and distributed systems.</li><li>Experience optimizing LLM latency and inference/API costs.</li><li>Good understanding of email marketing and marketing automation workflows, including email campaigns, segmentation, personalization, A/B testing, deliverability, and campaign analytics.</li><li>Experience integrating marketing platforms through APIs and webhooks and using AI to automate and optimize email marketing workflows.</li><li>Strong problem-solving and system-design skills, along with strong communication and collaboration skills.</li></ul>
